The name Rockwall is derived from a naturally jointed geological formation, which has the appearance of an artificial wall.
GEOGRAPHY
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 31.6 square miles (82 km²), of which, 22.3 square miles (58 km²) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²) of it (1.63%) is water. Rockwall is on the east shore of Lake Ray Hubbard about 20 miles northeast of Dallas. It is on state highways 205 and 66, north of Interstate 30.DEMOGRAPHICS
